Risk mitigation and delivering the right product first time is at the heart of the Sulzer stock holding strategy, supported by Sulzer’s excellent customer service. There is a clear and simple benefit of holding product inventory is to meet wastewater industry requirements. This can mean supplying customers with the product and service they require exactly when something fails…

What can go wrong?

Wastewater pumping and treatment can present many challenges. Unplanned asset failure is one of the greatest challenges customers faces, happening at inconvenient times, and resulting in additional unplanned costs and significant end-user disruption. This also creates the potential for pollution, reputation damage and resultant fines.

‘Expecting the unexpected’ with strategic stock locations

In three of the strategic UK customer support centres (Southeast, West and North), Sulzer holds a stock of over 350 pump variants 0.5Kw to 75Kw – Dn32 to Dn350, with installation accessories and other Sulzer products. The strategic locations allow for the fast delivery to any UK destination, either the same or next day.

Sulzer UK stock is supported by the Sulzer Global Logistics network with daily re-supply from Euro Hub facility based in Luxembourg. It is all managed by Sulzer ERP systems to ensure constant stock replenishment.

Industry shortest delivery time

A significant amount of demand for pump supply is usually created when a product fails. Sulzer supports customers with a large stock capacity and shortest industry lead times – next day delivery and in some situations even same day.

When time is of the essence

A Sulzer Key Account Manager (Municipal Water) took a phone call from a customer on a Thursday at 15.20.

A pump had failed at one of their pumping stations. Current delivery of another OEM product was 3 to 4 weeks with the only other available solution being a hire pump. The customer did not want to incur more costs to the business by installing a hire unit, so they contacted Sulzer to seek a permanent solution. Sulzer had a replacement pump sized, quoted, and sourced within 40 mins and customer’s authorisation to proceed. Transport was organised and the pump was delivered the following day direct from UK stock.

“From taking the call at 15.20, the Sulzer team reacted swiftly which enabled such a quick turnaround. The customer received a call at 16.00 confirming pump availability and delivery times. Such a quick response from the team ensured risk reduction and cost savings for our customer.”
