Buxton Lime is proud to announce the successful commissioning of a brand-new High Solids Milk of Lime (HSMOL) production plant at our Tunstead quarry site.
The £600,000 investment marks a significant milestone for the business, bringing High Solids Milk of Lime (HSMOL) production fully in-house. The plant has been designed to support the increasing sales of Kalic HS which is the product of choice for the alkali treatment of industrial effluent, sludge and wastewater systems.
A smarter, more sustainable solution
Bringing production on-site significantly reduces our environmental impact by eliminating the need for road haulage between Tunstead and external suppliers. The move also improves our ability to manage quality and consistency, thanks to enhanced control over the entire process. Integrated with our existing control systems via SCADA, the new plant requires minimal operator intervention, while its state-of-the-art design ensures reliability and efficiency.
The facility is fully aligned with our long-term growth strategy. It has been designed with future expansion in mind, allowing for increased production through additional running hours or the installation of extra mixing and storage tanks as demand grows.
With all aspects of production, engineering, and quality control located on the same site, we are also able to streamline operations and respond more quickly to customer requirements. Furthermore, the plant supplements our existing Kalic 18% Liquid Lime facility, enhancing our product range and service capability.
As the most modern Milk of Lime plant in the UK, this facility positions Buxton Lime at the forefront of industry innovation and environmental stewardship.
Kalic HS – High strength, high performance
At the heart of the new plant’s output is Kalic HS Liquid Lime, a high-strength, chemically stabilised Milk of Lime with a 45% solids concentration. This advanced product is specially formulated for industrial effluent, sludge, and wastewater treatment, offering outstanding performance and reliability.
Kalic HS is a ready-to-use, low-viscosity suspension that is easy to handle and store. Its stable formulation resists settlement and remains effective in a wide range of conditions, including temperatures down to 0°C. Non-toxic and non-corrosive, Kalic HS provides a safe, high-purity solution for demanding treatment applications. It also supports improved removal of heavy metals and helps maintain consistent pH control. With a typical solids concentration of 45% w/w, it can be handled as a liquid, eliminating the difficulties associated with powder or slurry.
For drinking water applications, our DWI-approved Kalic HSD is available (Ref No. 56/4/1206), making it ideal for both potable and process water treatment systems.
Kalic HS is typically supplied in bulk by articulated bulk air pressure road tankers (up to 28 tonnes/20,000 litres). Kalic HS Liquid Lime can also be supplied in 1,000-litre IBCs that are left on our customers’ sites.
