Project Overview
As part of a major U.K. water infrastructure improvement programme, Bonomi UK was selected to supply specialist knife gate valves for a high-pressure potable water application. The project required robust valve technology capable of operating reliably under demanding pressure conditions while maintaining compliance with water industry standards.
Working closely with the project team from the design stage through to delivery, Bonomi UK, together with its partner CMO Valves, provided a bespoke valve solution that met the operational and performance requirements of the installation.
The Challenge
The application required large-diameter isolation valves capable of operating within a potable water network at exceptionally high pressures.
Key project requirements included:
- Maximum operating pressure of 62 bar
- DN300 and DN450 valve sizes
- WRAS-compliant materials suitable for potable water use
- Long-term reliability and low-maintenance operation
- Full engineering documentation and testing certification
Due to the elevated operating pressure, the valve design required a larger-than-standard body cylinder to accommodate the increased mechanical loads while maintaining operational performance.
The Solution
Bonomi UK supplied seven CMO D-Series high-pressure knife gate valves specifically engineered for the application:
- 5 × DN300 D-Series knife gate valves
- 2 × DN450 D-Series knife gate valves
Each valve was manufactured with:
- A216 WCB carbon steel body
- AISI 304 stainless steel gate
- WRAS-approved EPDM sealing components
- WRAS-approved epoxy coating
- Bronze guide sleeves
- AUMA gearbox actuation
- Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
- Full engineering drawings and certification package
The CMO D-Series knife gate valve was selected for its suitability in high-pressure applications. Its robust one-piece body construction and specialised sealing arrangement provide dependable shut-off performance while maintaining low pressure losses and excellent durability.
Project Delivery
The projects team at Bonomi UK supported the project throughout the procurement and manufacturing process, carrying out detailed technical reviews and supplying comprehensive engineering documentation to assist with installation and commissioning.
Factory Acceptance Testing was completed prior to shipment, providing confidence that each valve met the required performance criteria before being deployed to site.
The valves were delivered in accordance with the project schedule, supporting the successful completion of the installation programme.
Results
The installed valves have delivered reliable performance within the high-pressure drinking water network, providing:
- Secure isolation under demanding operating conditions
- Long-term durability and resistance to wear
- Reduced maintenance requirements
- Reliable operation within a critical water infrastructure application
- Confidence through tested and certified valve performance
The successful implementation demonstrates Bonomi UK’s capability to provide engineered valve solutions for complex utility and water industry projects.
