PROFOX from AUMA Actuators Limited is a new generation electric actuator designed to combine high-performance engineering with intelligent, adaptable control delivered by variable speed actuation capabilities.
PROFOX is built for applications demanding precision, flexibility, and long-term reliability, and delivers significant benefits in operational efficiency and infrastructure protection across sectors such as water treatment, energy, industrial processing, and shipbuilding.
At the core of PROFOX’s innovation is its configurable motor speed, enabling operators to tailor valve movement precisely to the demands of each application. This variable speed functionality allows for faster actuation when needed, or slower, more controlled movements when process stability is a priority. This is particularly valuable in fluid systems, where gradual actuation helps prevent pressure surges and minimises the risk of water hammer, supporting calm network strategies and reducing strain on pipes and components.
“PROFOX is more than just an actuator, it’s a smart control solution,” says Paul Hopkins, Managing Director, AUMA Actuators Limited. “Variable speed technology provides both performance and protection, helping operators maintain efficiency while extending the life of critical infrastructure.”
This flexible speed control is complemented by soft start/stop functions, enhancing process smoothness and reducing mechanical stress. The result is more precise process control and lower wear and tear on the actuator and connected equipment.
PROFOX embedded intelligence and real-time diagnostics supports both simple open/close operations and more complex modulating tasks. Operators gain actionable insights for proactive maintenance and improved system oversight, helping reduce downtime and extend service intervals. Low standby power consumption and high mechanical efficiency further contribute to lower operational costs over the long term.
Versatility Across Applications
PROFOX is suitable for gate, butterfly, ball, and globe valves. Multi-turn models cover torques from 10 to 100 Nm, while part-turn versions range from 32 to 600 Nm. A linear actuator variant further broadens its application potential. The PROFOX design allows for easy configuration, fast delivery, and scalable deployment, making PROFOX a future-ready solution adaptable to diverse system needs.
Integration into existing and evolving control environments is seamless thanks to compatibility with all major communication protocols. This ensures that PROFOX fits current infrastructures and is ready for digital upgrades, including advanced SCADA and IoT platforms.
Engineered for Harsh Environments
PROFOX is designed and manufactured in Germany and is built to withstand extreme conditions. Its compact, high-grade metal housing features IP67 protection (with IP68 optional) and C5-M/C5-I corrosion resistance in line with EN ISO 12944-6, ensuring robust performance in corrosive and wet environments. The actuator operates reliably across a wide temperature range from –30 °C to +70 °C, delivering consistent functionality in both arctic and tropical climates.
Simplified Installation and Monitoring
The installation and commissioning of PROFOX are streamlined via intuitive pushbutton controls and a user-friendly mobile app. Visual feedback is immediate, using the FOX-EYE LED status light and a prominent mechanical position indicator, which enables quick status checks, even from a distance.
Paul Hopkins concludes: “PROFOX’s variable speed actuation empowers operators with the precision, adaptability, and confidence needed to control today’s complex flow systems.”
