Molecor, leading Spanish company in the development of advanced solutions for water supply (TOM®, ecoFITTOM® and TR6®), sewerage systems (SANECOR®) and building (AR® and EVAC+®) is a reference in its sector with presence in more than 30 countries around the world.
Within this sector Molecor is, without any doubt, the world leader in the development of technology for the manufacture of MOPVC pipes and fittings. With its cutting-edge system, the company is able to manufacture the largest MOPVC pipes range in the world, from DN90 to DN1200 mm, these are TOM® pipes, as well as ecoFITTOM®, the first fittings in this material, which are available from DN110 mm to DN400 mm, and which guarantee greater uniformity in water transport networks by sharing the same physical and mechanical properties as TOM® pipes.
Molecular Orientation is a process that has been developed for fifty years, experiencing a great evolution that has been fundamental for the water transport sector.
With the arrival of the new millennium and considering technological advances, an innovative MOPVC pipe manufacturing system emerged developed by Molecor, a company founded in 2006. This revolutionary technology is based on the orientation of the pipes using only air, in contrast to the use of water, present in other systems.
The technology developed by Molecor is distinguished by its Genuine Air System, which uses air instead of water throughout the manufacturing process, increasing safety and optimizing energy costs, thus contributing to sustainable development.
Why choose Molecor technology?
Focusing on the properties of the pipes and fittings produced, it is crucial to highlight the importance of manufacturing the socket in the same process as the rest of the pipe or fitting, thus achieving optimal conditions of Molecular Orientation. With the technology developed by Molecor, it is not necessary to use additional machinery to manufacture the socket, which guarantees the same properties in the socket as in the rest of the product.
The integral manufacturing of the pipe manages to eliminate weak points and to maintain the Class 500 MOPVC properties throughout the pipe. It is important to distribute the desired degree of orientation well in each part of the socket, since it has been shown that the stresses supported are not the same in the different sections. Thus, Molecor manages to reinforce the weakest part of the MOPVC pipes, obtaining a more resistant pipe for installation and operation.
Why the 500 Class?
Class 500 is the highest one recognized for Molecular Orientation according to the international ISO 16422 standard. This means that TOM® Class 500 MOPVC pipes offer the best mechanical properties and therefore superior performance on the market.
The Class 500 certification means that, after 50 years, the Minimum Required Strength (MRS) will be 50 MPa, compared to other class levels. This result is based on tests carried out in accordance with ISO 9082 for 104 hours and extrapolated to 50 years.
Furthermore, the excellent elastic capacity of Class 500 MOPVC pipes allows them to resist large deformations of the inner diameter, instantly recovering their original shape after crushing or after unexpected mechanical accidents. This reduces the risk of breakage due to sliding ground, stones or other objects.
TOM PVC-O Class 500 pipes are resistant to corrosion caused by macro and microorganisms present in nature, which makes them a non-degradable material that does not require additional protection or coating. This represents considerable cost savings and guarantees the total quality of the transported fluid, since no corrosion or migration occurs.
They are also easy to handle due to their lightness, which eliminates the need for machinery up to a diameter of 315 mm. Its lightness, ductility and impact resistance, directly contribute to greater profitability, performance and speed in installation compared to other types of pipes.
On the other hand, the internal walls of TOM® PVC-O Class 500 pipes and ecoFITTOM® fittings are extremely smooth, which minimizes pressure losses and allows greater hydraulic capacity, thus reducing the consumption of energy resources and CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
But the Molecor’s commitment to sustainability goes much further. The company has the certification of the Energy Management System according to the ISO 50001:2018 standard, which allows us to identify the energy uses and consumption of the production plant, whose continuous energy monitoring and review of the baseline energy will provide powerful information to be able to establish energy saving measures in the most significant equipment and thus improve the energy efficiency and energy performance of our facilities.
Calculation and elaboration of the organization’s carbon footprint report is also another perspective on Molecor’s strong environment commitment, and the company is calculating the greenhouse gases emitted by direct or indirect effect from the development of the organization’s activity for the years 2022 and 2023 using the well-known Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Standard (GHG Protocol) quantification methodology. Obtained results will be available in the next weeks, but it’s a powerful tool to know which are the company’s main consumptions and which are the ones that produce more emissions in order to apply different measures to reduce them and our carbon footprint.
Manufacturing and development of certain MOPVC products with unique technology based on air, are the key to Molecor’s success, and it has proved that TOM® pipes and ecoFITTOM® fittings, are the greenest solution among those available on the market.
Products that present a minor energy consumption over their long-life cycle and less greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere, which contributes to a lower carbon footprint than alternative materials, as well as having a lower impact on climate change.
Proof of this, is the recent Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for three of the most significant products in our wide range of PVC plastics solutions for water conveyance: AR® Soundproof Evacuation System, TOM® Pipes and ecoFITTOM® fittings in MOPVC, and SANECOR® Corrugated PVC System.
